Micky van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Run at Brand New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the scores a short while after the defender's first goal, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to ensure the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates Thomas Frank's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at both ends of pitch

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere two shots on target, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees missing finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have worn off slightly and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of recognised strikers - had scored only a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham penalty area.
