Catherine's Traditional Festive Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
